Inclement Weather Hotlines and Field Playability Policies

As we play at numerous fields across multiple Maryland counties (with participants and teams sometimes coming from great distances), to determine whether you are playing at a particular location (on nights of questionable weather), be sure to check the county inclement weather hotlines and web sites listed below:

Anne Arundel County Inclement Weather Hotline (410) 222-7312
Rockburn Branch Park (410) 313-4455

These sites and hotlines are usually updated by 4PM most weekdays, but if you are ever unsure, please consult the county-specific inclement weather policy associated with your game field.

Please note:  If the County closes the fields there are no games to be held.   NO Exceptions.

Cancellation Information and Field Condition/Playability Guidelines

Anne Arundel County

After severe weather or large amounts of rain, the Department may close or restrict the use of outdoor facilities. As a matter of safety and precaution, all activities must come to a stop upon the first sound of thunder or sign of lightning. Activities may be resumed only after the thunder has stopped or after a 30 minute delay beyond the last sign of lightning.

Groups should call the Hotline at 410-222-7312 or check the AAC website (below). If there is no cancellation notice, groups should make a prudent decision about their permitted field based on current conditions.

Under any circumstances the safety of the participants is paramount.  Strong consideration must also be given to the potential damage to the turf and the length of time required for the field to recover. When determining field playability, the following guidelines should be followed:

  • Large areas of standing water on any part of the playing field is just cause for cancellation.
  • Any attempt to remove standing water from small areas should be done by bailing or by a pump.
  • During the course of inspection, any visible  water or sound (squish) while walking is an  indication  that the field is unfit for play or practice.
  • Footprints and the collection of water around them is an indication that the field should be closed.
